I'm happy with it since I wanted an older Doctor even back when the casting for Matt Smith was going around. I'm super thrilled that there will be a lot less frenetic shipping and DRAMA love triangles; like I ship the Doctor with people but it started getting annoying when it was EVERY recent Doctor with EVERY recent companion (minus Donna, because yay Donna).

I remember really liking his performance in Torchwood, so acting-wise he already gets my approval stamp there.

POC/Woman-wise, I mean, that would've been nice and unexpected, but yeah... I pretty much knew we were probably going to get another white dude, so that doesn't bother me at all.

My friends and family who were with me when the news started spreading were all pretty "that's cool" about it too.

As has been said repeatedly, I don't care so much about a new Doctor as I do a new showrunner. :\

Once they get rid of Moffat there will be a lot less of the cheesy space opera plots, you mean. Can't speak for the shipping, it's pretty much rampant in the fandom these days...maybe BBC won't be able to get away from that, because the insane, tasteless, vocal part of the fanbase will whine about how much they MISS TEH DRAMA AND TEH ROOOOOMAAAAAANCE WAAAAAAHHH....

Yeah, I'm cynical. Getting rid of Moffat is step one.

Yes, shipping and Moffat are completely unrelated. After all, it was at its worst with Rose vs Martha and that was RTD. (Although Moffat did drag out the whole "does Amy love Rory or the Doctor more" drama for a season longer than it really should've been.)

I was referring to less shipping in regards to Capaldi's older age because - while I know shippers will still exist - I know a lot of them will be thrown off by it.

I'm looking forward to less love triangles as well. I just want friendship companions. That's why I forever love Donna and Ten's relationship too. I can't see Twelve and Clara working in a shipping way... even if Tumblr can already.

I never thought it would be a woman or POC either. Not under Moffat. And not until he's been a ginger.

I feel like Moffat will never leave :( He seems so in love with himself and what he's done with the franchise.

In a vastly altered AU, I can see them working. Like same personalities, but different history. I always got a lot of Rose vibes from Clara, even if it's hard to make actual comparisons with her pretty sparse characterization. I also think Jenna and Matt had some good chemistry. But yeah, as is, I always saw Eleven and Clara as just friends, and with Capaldi as Twelve, yeah... definitely just friends, if that.

I'm just hoping now that the rumors anon talked about up thread re: Moffat leaving mid-season eight are true. Like I rarely ever put stock in internet rumors, but I just want to believe.

I guess I can see Clara/Rose. I always saw her as a watered down River. With less "spoilers" and more hot air plot wise.

I didn't know there were rumours about Moffat leaving. I want to believe too. So much.
