I am very pro this move, because Capaldi is a really, really talented actor, and I think that's probably the most important quality for someone to have to play the part. Even if he's not going to be as sweary as he was in the Thick of It.

I think it would be better if they were also replacing Moffat, but you can't have everything, I guess.

I think he'll made a good Doctor as well. I can see him being a sarcastic maybe closer to 9. Or he might be a jolly one. Only the Christmas episode can tell!

This was exactly my reaction! I was resigned to it being another really young actor. Right or wrong, it's been proven that literally millions of adults struggle to believe that someone so young is still, in fact, the Doctor.

My reaction is the same as when Matt Smith was announced: "Oh."

Because I knew jack shit about Matt Smith, and I've only seen Peter in a couple of smaller roles so I don't know what to expect. With Moffat still on board I'm pretty meh about the next season, but I'll tune in and see how things go. I liked Matt Smith (even if he didn't always have much to work with) so I imagine I'll enjoy 12, too.

I don't know all of Peter's work, but it endears me that he wrote a fanletter to the newspaper when he was a youngster and was in a DW club.

Moffat needs to leave. I don't know why someone hasn't removed him yet. Clara's whole arc failed to inspire me. I like both Matt and Jenna, but I only enjoyed a few episodes from last season.

No one knows. No one. Nah, some people actually like him. Different strokes and all that, but I had to force myself to watch last season's episodes. There was no excitement whatsoever.

I'm happy with it since I wanted an older Doctor even back when the casting for Matt Smith was going around. I'm super thrilled that there will be a lot less frenetic shipping and DRAMA love triangles; like I ship the Doctor with people but it started getting annoying when it was EVERY recent Doctor with EVERY recent companion (minus Donna, because yay Donna).

I remember really liking his performance in Torchwood, so acting-wise he already gets my approval stamp there.

POC/Woman-wise, I mean, that would've been nice and unexpected, but yeah... I pretty much knew we were probably going to get another white dude, so that doesn't bother me at all.

My friends and family who were with me when the news started spreading were all pretty "that's cool" about it too.

As has been said repeatedly, I don't care so much about a new Doctor as I do a new showrunner. :\

Once they get rid of Moffat there will be a lot less of the cheesy space opera plots, you mean. Can't speak for the shipping, it's pretty much rampant in the fandom these days...maybe BBC won't be able to get away from that, because the insane, tasteless, vocal part of the fanbase will whine about how much they MISS TEH DRAMA AND TEH ROOOOOMAAAAAANCE WAAAAAAHHH....

Yeah, I'm cynical. Getting rid of Moffat is step one.

Yes, shipping and Moffat are completely unrelated. After all, it was at its worst with Rose vs Martha and that was RTD. (Although Moffat did drag out the whole "does Amy love Rory or the Doctor more" drama for a season longer than it really should've been.)

I was referring to less shipping in regards to Capaldi's older age because - while I know shippers will still exist - I know a lot of them will be thrown off by it.

I'm looking forward to less love triangles as well. I just want friendship companions. That's why I forever love Donna and Ten's relationship too. I can't see Twelve and Clara working in a shipping way... even if Tumblr can already.

I never thought it would be a woman or POC either. Not under Moffat. And not until he's been a ginger.

I feel like Moffat will never leave :( He seems so in love with himself and what he's done with the franchise.

In a vastly altered AU, I can see them working. Like same personalities, but different history. I always got a lot of Rose vibes from Clara, even if it's hard to make actual comparisons with her pretty sparse characterization. I also think Jenna and Matt had some good chemistry. But yeah, as is, I always saw Eleven and Clara as just friends, and with Capaldi as Twelve, yeah... definitely just friends, if that.

I'm just hoping now that the rumors anon talked about up thread re: Moffat leaving mid-season eight are true. Like I rarely ever put stock in internet rumors, but I just want to believe.

Is it wrong that I am very amused by the fact you took all of that time to collapse threads and this post with his picture and name is visible when first clicking into General Comments?

Not that I'd consider the casting a spoiler, but I'm still amused by all of the effort you did to hide it and still it's very visible.

Nope, not a glitch. Maybe Chrome (which I use) runs things differently than whatever browser you are using? Or I have an add on or something? Not that I know of, but I always see the first handful of direct replies after the first couple of comments in the GC thread. (Well, in any thread, but we're talking about this one.) In this case, the last direct reply to your 12th doctor comment I see while staying just in GC without directly clicking on the link to your 12th Doctor thread is the one that says just "jbkj". And this is what I see surrounding your picture comment...
