I read this as "my absolute favorite pairing" at first.

Same, but that they shipped Disney/Pixar, as in the two companies.

...That's kind of intriguing. What would that look like, d'you think?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. That wasn't just me.

They actually play Cars at my job ALL THE TIME...I've developed an odd fondness for it. Sure, a lot of the time I find myself going "That's so nonsensical, damn." but I feel like Lightning all the time before his Realization.

I love Cars and I honestly don't understand the hate for the movie. I think it's good! The second one wasn't as good, but I still liked it.

[Picture is a poster of the Pixar CGI animated film "Cars". It features Lightning McQueen, a red sports car with eyes on its windshield and a smiling mouth where the bumper goes, and Tow Mater, an old rusty truck with similar anthropomorphic features and buckteeth. They are smiling at each other.]

This is my ABSOLUTE favorite Pixar/Disney movie, and every time someone makes a mention of it (usually negatively, can you san underrated?) I just get overwhelmed by CARS FEELS and can't go on.

Aww, I like Cars too. My baby nephew got me into it and now I love it. Even the Mater shorts.

My feeling about Cars is that it is one of the lesser Pixar flicks but that still makes it a superior movie.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's Doc Hollywood with cars.
It's probably superior to other 'talking vehicle' stuff like Bob the Builder, I'll give you that.

Just because a story has been told before, doesn't mean it can't be retold. Get off your high horse.

I love Cars too. When it first came out, I thought I was going to hate it because I'm not interested in cars or racing at all. It turned out to be a really heartwarming tale and I'm glad I forced myself to give it a chance.

I do admit that I hated the sequel, but the first movie is great.

I remember when Cars came out I was out of town so didn't have much access to the internet. I went and saw it while on my trip and was like "wow what a great movie". And then when I came back and saw that a lot of people were really unimpressed I was just... legitimately super confused.

I don't think it's really one of Pixar's lesser efforts. I don't think it's one of their BEST EVER, but it's just as solid as most of their other work and I really love it.

Even Cars 2 doesn't deserve the vitriol it gets. I would agree that it's definitely Pixar's weakest film, but it was still an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours. And yeah it was a cashgrab but without some cashgrab flicks that are guaranteed to sell a billion dollars in merchandise, Pixar can't really afford to continue to make unique projects that, while they do well at the box office, don't bring in a lot of merchandising money.

See, I actually like Cars better than The Incredibles, which gets me side-eyed all over the place.

A Bugs Life has GOT to be Pixar's weakest film, though. Ugh.

Cars doesn't deserve half the criticism it gets. And even if it did, then you could still say that Pixar's worst movie is better than, for example, Michael Bay's best movie. (You can make the same point of Hayao Miyazaki's work, incidentally.)

If you can possibly manage it, you should see Cars at a drive-in—it's a meta experience.

Michael Bay's best movie is The Rock and it's better than Cars because Sean Connery (and Nic Cage).

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Why would you compare Pixar to Michael Bay movies?

It's not my favorite Disney/Pixar movie by any means, but I think it's a really cute and entertaining film. I don't understand all the hate that it gets.

My only complaint is that Cars didn't exist when I was a kid. I was obsessed with toy cars when I was younger and would have loved all the Cars toys, school supplies, etc. Last week I saw a rolling backpack shaped like Lightning McQueen and the 5-year-old inside of me started screaming "I WANT IT!"

I was at my LCS last last week, and the clerk tried to upsell me Planes tickets. When I asked what that was, I kind of maybe lol no'd once I knew it was related to Cars.

Now I feel bad.

I have a Lightning McQueen tattoo! Definitely my favorite Pixar film :)
