Huh. I don't flame them, but if your plot/spelling/characterization is shit, I sure as hell won't be reading. And yes, I understand the aggravation with the crop of bad fics on Ao3. ESPECIALLY ASSHOLES WHO TAG LIKE 50 THINGS! This isn't Tumblr stop tagging your feels.

uggggh I am so irrationally angry when I see people tagging on AO3 like it's tumblr. JUST STOP.

But it's true that it's also a good indicator of what NOT to read.

Someone tagging things NOT in the fic (this was a GoT fic) so they are in more tags people search.

What. Who thinks this is a good idea. I want to leave a note saying 'you tag like an asshole' on their windshield. >:(

I'm glad they made sure to tag the fic with "Non-insestual relationship". That was really important.

As was 'sex', apparently.

I see this ALL THE TIME. See it on tumblr too.

This is exactly the kind of fic I skip right past, without even a pause for consideration.

The more tags something has on AO3, the more likely I am to never ever click it.

I skimmed it just to see if the other characters were in it. Did not see them.

Don't suppose we could sue them for false advertising...?

Actually, that one at least has a good percentage of -- well, not "canonical" tags, but pre-defined standard ones.

I've seen more than one drabble tagged with so many "editorial comment" type tags that the sum of the tag wordcount is higher than the fic wordcount.

I prefer those to lies! At least when I am looking up my Erik/Charles fic on mobile I don't have to scroll through that bastard every time. :(

I honestly don't see how this could possibly work to their benefit.

The likelyhood that there will be a large market for fics of all of these fandoms in a oneshot fic is probably...slim at best.

Is it possible to report that bullshit? Jeez, even eBay doesn't allow keyword abuse.

I want to calculate some (#words in tags)/(#words in story) metric, and screen out anything over 0.05. Some stories are just too short to carry that much weight in tags.

I hate 100 drabbles as is on Ao3. Having more words in your tags than in the actual drabble make me want to beat you up.

As a general rule if the tags are longer than the actual fic I do not read it.

I left a review once that included something like "I was initially reluctant to read this fic because of your excessive tumblr style tags, but I'm glad I soldiered on because it turned out to be really great"

Well they needed to hear it. I know from experience even good authors tag their feels but had I seen the tags before I read their stories (from a rec list), I'd have skipped it without hesitation.

Yessss. In my limited experience, the fics with 50 tags of Tumblr feels turn out to be some of the worst fics I've taken a chance on. So, I use that as an indicator that I should move on, because the fic is not geared toward my reading taste.

there is an author I adore like water - she is actually brilliant, clever, and so far beyond the average fanfic writer that it makes me want to cry sometimes. BUT SHE TAGS HER SHIT LIKE THAT ON A03. I don't fucking get it. It's honestly why I can't even read her stories over there, because those fucking tags kill me. I want to gently taker her aside and point out that they're not for James reJoycing but I don't want to harsh her happiness since I know she is sensitive to not doing social things 'properly' and wow I guess this could have been a secret all on its own.
