Idk in my experience figuring out what your 'purpose' is relatively easy. Making it happen, and being able to also make a living and survive is a whole different story.

I'm 28, and most of my friends my age still haven't figured it out.

That varies a lot from person to person. You are extremely lucky if you were able to figure out what you wanted to be when you grew up, before you grew up. Many people don't until well after.

mm, I feel like the problem is partly how non-transparent the world is? We grow up mostly not even knowing what there IS to do, as regards something like 90% of all possible jobs. Even finding out what kind of work you really click with is mostly just dumb luck. Childhood passions can be deeply misleading in this regard.

That was a major issue for me for a long-ass time. "What do you want to do?" Well, what do you DO as x, y or z? We really only ever get a vague idea of what jobs usually entail and that's for the well-known ones.

So yeah I think you're onto something.

This was true for me, I knew what I was interested in/good at by middle school, but I doubt I'll ever have a career in those fields, largely because I don't want to attempt to combine needing to make a buck with following my dreams. I'll keep whatever day job and do what I actually love on the side.

Oh, fuck no.

I have a lot of options for what I want to do, but absolutely no idea *what* I want to do.
