I think he did look for a Abigail look-alike for demonstrational purposes, but only chose Cassie after finding out how rude she was.
Marissa called her mother 'bitch' and he quite obviously disapproved of that.
Abigail had found out about him (or would have sooner or later) and therefore presented a threat to him.

And yes, Cassie's and Marissa's deaths served his curiosity about Will and Abigail, but I doubt he would have killed them if he didn't think they deserved being impaled on antlers and made into fancy chicken wings anyway.
