I think it's less hating on the actor and more hating on Moffat and BBC for playing it safe.

I'm sure he'll do great in the role, it's the production team I don't trust.

"You want people to be shocked when the name comes out," Moffat is quoted as saying by the LA Times.

"You want people to go, 'No, that would never work!' They did that with Matt, when they announced Matt. It was, 'He's far too young, and he doesn't look right. He's got silly hair.'

"You want people to go, 'Oh, what have they done?' And they always get wrenched out of their comfort zone, and then they find the Doctor again. And there's such a range of what the Doctor can be."

How do you know that?

if you look at ratings and see that they're declining, how do you know that it's because of the actor, and not Moffat's shitty writing?

Because of the BBC viewer polls that I mentioned along with the ratings. The BBC has been conducting polls for two years because of the declining ratings.
