New York Comic-con

[personal profile] deadtree 2013-08-06 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it's a ways off, but I have just sorted my plans out and I'm going to NYCC this year :D I'm really excited, it's my first time to visit New York, and my first Comic-con. I know it's not nearly as big or exciting as SDCC (which I hope to go to next year, fingers crossed), but I'm still pumped.

Anyone have any experiences with NYCC to share with a novice? The biggest con I have been to would probably be A-kon in Dallas... but I haven't been to a con in probably 8 years.

Wanna go next year, but won't bet his year... if you like it and come back, maybe we can set up a F!S meet?

Yeah, thought about it, but the whole car thing I mentioned above has changed a lot of my plans due to practical finance issues.

It's big and crowded and overwhelming and kind of amazing. This is going to be my fifth NYCC, though I spend a lot of time in New York, so I don't consider it a travel convention. Depending on what you want to focus on, expect to possibly expect to stand in lines a LOT. And don't be disappointed if you can't get to everything you want to.

well that sounds like fun :) Yeah, I have heard that there will be massive lines and stuff, and I don't really mind that-- lots of practice from going to concerts and stuff... I'll just bring my kindle or something to read while I wait on the days that I don't know anyone going. I'll try not to be bummed about not getting into panels I want to see but I'm sure I'll be disappointed somewhere along the line :p

I volunteered at NYCC last year. Hopefully, I will be volunteer this year.

First of all, the convention center is big so expect to get lost. Also, if you want to get into a big panel get there early. Seriously lines get huge. Especially if it deal with the IGN theater. Also, in the mornings, when the con starts, expect a long ass line winding around the block. Also, be a aware there will be people aka volunteers in bright colored shirts yelling directions.

HYDRATE. HYDRATE. HYDRATE. HYDRATE. Definitely a big thing. If yo wanna get something to eat go outside. There is a McDonalds about two blocks away. There are more food place as you move further. There is Chinese food place that offers a 5 dollar food deal which is pretty sweet. Also, on the other side of the street are wooden benches and concrete benches with outlets. There are quite a few places to eat. But if you can try to buys stuff from outside at eat it there.

That's all I can think of for now. It's really fun though. In spire of the lines and crowding. Feel free to ask about other stuff!

thank you for the info! <3 I'm going to copy it into a word file to hang on to and have when the date gets closer!

Do you enjoy volunteering? I used always to volunteer at anime conventions because I mostly went to see the concerts and go shopping, but for NYCC I am mostly interested in panels and stuff so I would hate to miss anything. However you probably DO get to meet the celebrities ;)

No problem.

Yes, I do! I mean, apart from sometimes getting a free ticket in. I like helping out. Well, to be fair I didn't really get to meet any celebrities. I did mostly panel and line management. Also, we are closely watched b.c a few years ago a group of volunteers swarmed Seth Green. Of course, they suffocated and scared the crap outta him. So, Seth Green is a little wary of the NYCC volunteers. 8C

Still, I met great friend because of volunteering.
