#24: What do you mean "yes, it does exist?" U2 have had fans for damn near thirty years--this is news? What is U2 fandom if not the people who fill arenas to see them?

Teenagers and young adults don't believe me when I say U2 has a fandom. :/ So that's why I added it. And someone actually commented saying "U2 has a fandom?" sooo. Yeah. D8

Huh? They're one of the most popular bands in the world. They have millions of fans. We're not talking about some local bar band here, why would anyone be surprised to hear that U2 has fans?

... yeah, but these fans I believe she's referring to are not your typical fans of the band. They're fans of the band members and their personal lives and like to write fanfiction about Bono and the Edge getting it on, et cetera.

I used to be around these people back in another lifetime, and they were some of the most bizarre fans I've ever encountered. Most of them were middle aged women who must have had too much time on their hands and if not that, they were pseudo-Goth girls who thought that dropping Bono and co. into a Steven King-ish storyline was the shit.

Overall it was comprised of a bunch of pretentious fucks and might I add very mean pretentious fucks.

...so what she meant to say was not "U2 has a fandom," but rather, "U2 has fanfic writers." I fuckin' hate it when people say "fandom" when they mean to say "fanfic." That's a tiny, tiny part of fandom, guys, especially when dealing with bands, where fandom interaction is generally based around things like bootleg trading, merch collection, concert touring, etc.
