Am I the only one who wishes this had a different narrator?

I mean Cecil certainly grew on me, but he sounds too much like he's reading a script. I was expecting something that sounded less fifties monster movie and more talk radio.

My previous head canon was Twin Peaks Ira Glass.

I definitely see what you mean (and good god, what a perfect headcanon), but for me some of Cecil's charm is in how over the top the voice acting is. It sounds like he's absolutely bullshitting the audience most of the time, and I almost hope he is.

He sounds like that to me because my headcanon for Cecil is that he's an absolutely normal human... until it's time for the program. Wherein he channels the news directly from the Eldritch Abominations ruling Night Vale; and that's the reason he sounds like someone it's dictating stuff to him, and the reason he appears to be real-time omniscient.

Sort of this? I mean, to me it seems more like he's reading The Events of the Day when talking about news/stuff he's obviously decided he wanted to share earlier in the day, and wrote down so he's not talking off the cuff, exactly.

I definitely feel the same way. Some of the lines are hilarious but the way it's spoken in 'false Colbert gravitas' makes it boring at times.
