How can you stand this fandom?

Because I'm a major geek when it comes to Ancient Egypt and I hate everything that fucks around with its mythology, no matter how entertaining it might be. A former friend of mine was a huge The Mummy fan and going to exhibitions with her was a torture because she related everything to the Mummy franchise and constantly pointed out how the ORIGINAL stuff was inaccurate because "in The Mummy they said cats are guardians of the underworld", "in The Mummy they said Imhotep was evil", "this is all bullshit". Aaaaaaaaaaaaa.

that sounds more like your friend being dumb (or really young, maybe?) than anything else, because most mature adults are going to have no trouble understanding that the original myths aren't "doing it wrong" when they aren't the same as the movies...
but then again we live in a world where

this happened so.

ayrt

That friend was only the most extreme example. Maybe the Thor fandom is different, but I had only bad experiences with The Mummy. It's awesome when someone tells you they are interested in Ancient Egypt... and then they only talk about shit they "learned" from The Mummy.
I'm especially furious about people insisting Imhotep was evil and therefore dismissing the RL Imhotep and refusing to learn about him.

Yeah, I've also met various people who thought Titanic was only a movie. And not just young ones. Maybe I'm just bitter XD
