Why is everyone so upset at the idea of a white woman playing her?

WW is a comic book character and not a real person. She can appear and be played as any ethnicity you can imagine.

1) Firstly, I don't see anyone in this thread getting upset at the idea of a white woman playing her.

2) Secondly, I'm probably going to get accused of being an SJW for this, but I don't think race matters when it comes to characters like Wonder Woman. She's not human. She's a magically-created being made out of clay. Getting upset because the actress playing Wonder Woman is the "wrong" race would be like throwing a tantrum because Leonard Nimoy isn't actually a Vulcan in real life.

I wouldn't care if they did cast a black actress, but the OP was complaining about them casting someone "lily white," which I thought was stupid.

OP has the right to be tired of the same old thing.

Well there are like no female superhero movies period so it wouldn't be the same old thing either way.

Because the people who usually do these sort of race bending fan castings aren't fans but activists. Since they don't read the comic, they see Wonder Woman as a blank canvas where any actress would do. So, why not a poc?

Considering that there are NO superheroine movies in the pipeline right now, casting any ethnicity, white, black, latino, etc. would be a blessing because it would mean a movie was getting made.

You wouldn't say that if she was a readhead but because Wonder Woman is a brunette people feel they can change her race at will.

I wouldn't really care what she looked like as long as she was awesome

Simple as that. Since this character actually has reasons to be white, the racebending debate will tear apart what would otherwise be a loyal fandom, the people who aren't fans will just be confused, and in order to make the role work some restructuring of her origin is probably necessary, which increases the liklihood of them changing other things and making it actual bad writing.

Which means this movie will crash and burn and even if you love it there will be nothing with her for at least a decade.
