Re: So I Finally Saw Pacific Rim...

I LOVED the music, I love the CGI, I loved the artistic layout of the scenes, the colours, the sheer amount of DETAIL that went into the world building. I love how over dramatic the fights were, the sheer scale that was shown through the noise and the movements and the sword that made me laugh and the wall going thorugh half of sydney (haha suck it Opera house). The detail was AMAZING. When the jaeger and kaiju clashed my heart would jump with the music.
I've bought the art book too and holy shit this is a really well designed art book. The detail in the movies is reflected in the book, it's mocked up to be like...like and information port folio with loose info sheets throughout, interactable ID cards with QR, information on the making of.
For me, the movie was pure art. It was all about the visuals and sounds. It was sitting down and just appreciating something for it's detail, the colours and placements of things. Like when gorilla!kaiju clambered all over cars and you could just see it's weight with each shift. The movie was artistic to the extreme, and I really really appreciate all the details and how LARGE everything was. It took an old, silly theme like giant monsters attacking Kaiju and it built it into an amazing, opera..operatic(?) experience for me.
It was gorgeous.
I think it's taken tumblr by storm because it was, well, fun...and pretty. It was a lighthearted seasonal movie and sometimes people really appreciate just watching something to appreciate the visual and aesthetics. Sure it might not be for you, but that doesn't mean countless others cannot enjoy it. It was guilt free, unadulterated fun.
