I've been there, too. But I less blame fangirls than media not having a lot of interracial BFFs. That said, I'm glad to have found some fandoms with easily shipped PoCs (Perception, Sinbad, Welcome to Night Vale).

True enough. I mostly thought it was funny that you were reassuring OP on the basis of there not being many interracial BFFs...when Pacific Rim itself includes a pair of interracial BFFs.

Though, as I was attempting to point out with my other examples, the existence of blatant interracial BFF-ery tends to correlate with a surprising lack of shippy fic/fanart/etc. If Shawn/Gus manages to be a relatively rare pairing, then Herc/Stacker doesn't stand a chance.
