Watching old shows

(Anonymous) 2013-08-09 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone else have a tendency to watch old shows they were either too young for or just didn't have any interest in, and now have all these feels they can't share?

Who doesn't?

What have you been watching?

I got into Firefly a few years back, and while it wasn't totally dead, all my friends who'd been trying to get me to watch it back in 2005 and had 400 Firefly icons and stuff just yawned at me and told me to watch Supernatural instead. I got into The Office while it was still running, but at a point where a lot of the original fans were bored with the show. Then I got into Friends, which ended when I graduated high school, so I didn't even bother trying to find fans.

Absolutely! I just keep them to myself, sadly.

Yep. Going through the X-Files was like my heart got punched in its face, and I have nobody to tell about it because I am way too late to the aftermath party :(

I have no idea what's going to happen when I ever get around to watching SG-1 or SGA other than finally understanding all the Sheppard/McKay(sp?/sp?) hullabaloo.

There are still X-Files fans.

We're just lurking like Krycek, waiting on the next movie.

I definitely know what you mean. I really wish I'd have watched it when it was still more vital. But there's still people out there.

Also, you should really read Monster of the Week. It's Shaenon Garrity's X-Files recap comic. It's great. Here: http://www.shaenon.com/monsteroftheweek/

THANK. YOU. SO. MUCH. Someone linked me to that comic when it was, like, three pages long, and I loved it and then promptly forgot it existed.

Advice to everyone: DON'T WATCH Starsky & Hutch.

I thought I'd watch it for the lulz and out of general curiosity, and then I realized I didn't care they dressed weirdly by today's standards or had '70 hair or whatever... I GOT HOOKED. Way to go me, like 40 years late.

(And then I discovered they both were even public and accepting about the slash, because well, it was on purpose and they were proud of it... I think this show could have killed us if it had aired now).

Due South was like this as well. Paul Gross (who played Fraser and was also the executive producer later in the show's history) was quite aware of the slash following and as a result the ho yay was even more ramped up in the final season. iirc, when he talked about the famous "buddy breathing" scene he said something like "I hope the slash fans really enjoyed that one!"

EXACTLY. Which is why everyone should watch it then write tons of fanfic and try to revive the fandom. It deserves it!

remember how in the finale, Starsky got injured and he was flatlining until Hutch walked into the room and he was revived by the POWER OF LOVE? My God. that show was the best

The hand-holding in the middle of the police station does it for me. And the ridiculous amounts of touching and hugging and just being as loving and affectionate as they possibly can without any shame. *sigh* That show...

Yeah, but I share them anyway (on tumblr or here). Go ahead with your feels. The worst is you may be laughed at, while most people will ignore you. The best is people might share the feels

T.J. Hooker.

I actually feel embarrassed by that, because it's a show I liked to watch when I'd get incredibly depressed. I loved seeing William Shatner play a man devoted to serving the public who genuinely cares about every case and does what it takes to save the day. Sure, I could watch him in Star Trek for that, but for some reason, I just love watching him as T.J. Hooker.

Idk, it'd just be great to have a William Shatner in my life to save the day sometimes because I get so tired of going about it myself.

Oh, hell yes. Right now, it's Star Trek. I'm still only partially through my first viewings of the original series, but I'm really getting invested in it. Lately, I've been getting into silly, classic sci-fi for some reason. There's just something about it that makes me happy. Dunno why for sure, but I think one factor is the fact that so much of it is so idealistic and not at all self-conscious about it, which isn't a trait found quite as often in modern sci-fi. But I digress. Anyway, I just finished Menagerie pt. 2 and am all heart-broken over Pike. I also ship him with Number One and would like fic, but I'm still unsure of the best places to look for it, since there isn't much in the way of fandom for them. So, yes. I know that feeling all too well.
