Riiight. The teenage bully who grew up into a useless father that got killed off for his own stupidity is so much better than the guy who made a mistake and spent his whole life repenting for it, contributing to saving the Wizarding Britain in the process.

James was a rich obnoxious privileged kid - and he was the first to pick on Snape and there were always four of them to one of him, so no, they were never equal jerks. He called Lily a mudblood after intense humiliation to which she contributed by smiling at him hanging upside down. She just used it as an excuse to ditch him because he was ugly and unpopular and that was what drove him to Voldemort's inner circle.

And about him being a bad teacher - Wonder why Dumbledore allowed him to teach at Hogwarts, then? His class was advanced. And Neville turned out all right, didn't he? And it wasn't like he could get very chummy with the Gryffindors in a room full of Slytherins when he was a double agent. Not to mention he was the one to teach Harry all he needed to know - and although Harry was unfair to him for seven books, he finally acknowledged him as the hero he was at the end.

Repeat after me, Snape was the bravest man Harry ever knew. Since your reading comprehension fails, just watch the DH movie part 2 and tell me how this is a bad guy.

Ooh, great job impersonating snapefen. I think this merits a 7/10.

Well done, oh, very well done! You're a good bean, anon, trying to help us out like this, and you did do the thing decently well.

you know, it's weird, because I've never felt the urge to call someone the n-word no matter how upset I was. hmmmmmm

(also way to blame lily for having a racial slur tossed at her. and she wasn't the only one he used it on either. also when lily tells off snape she brushes off his apology by bringing up that he's called other people "mudblood" so why should it make a difference to him if he's directing it at her for a change? it seems like she was feeling insecure about their friendship for a while and that was the last straw)

Just because Neville somehow overcame the bullying he was subjected to doesn't mean that Snape wasn't fucking terrible to him - a boy whose parents were tortured to insanity by people acting on Snape's orders.

And how exactly was James killed for his own stupidity? Voldemort himself showed up. Not exactly a light weight. Useless father? Frankly, we don't see enough of their home life to judge.

Blaming Lily for Snape joing a genocidal terrorist group? Nice! Not like Snape's a person who can make choices about how to deal with rejection! (Never mind that Lily was perfectly within her rights to stop hanging with someone who calls her a slur - particularly when muggleborns were being murdered with disturbing regularity at the time. No one has to be friends with someone who hurts them. Period. Full stop. End of story.)

Dumbledore let a lot of people teach who shouldn't have. Binns, Hagrid, most of the DA profs.

Finally, brave does NOT equal good.
