A WEIRD SOLITARY THOUGHT ABOUT THE SANDSTORM EPISODE:

I think it's interesting that Cecil doesn't have a double (and for that matter, neither does Kevin). Or at least that we don't hear about them. Because most other Night Vale residents do (even Dana obviously, and Vanessa in Desert Bluffs, and I don't think THEY are each other's). So that seems to point to both Cecil and Kevin having SOMETHING setting them apart from the rest of Night Vale/Desert Bluffs, like some kind of protection, or perhaps because they're on the pivot point of the trans-dimensional thing that allows them to cross over into the other's space.

I also think Kevin's throw-away line about the equipment in Cecil's studio "look[ing] much older" than the ones in his, to the point he thinks he might have gone back in time, is fascinating. Does that mean the viscera covered state of affairs is a newish thing and Desert Bluffs used to be "normal" (or at least as normal as Night Vale)? Or is Cecil's studio just kinda generally retro?

I also think it's hilarious both of those dorks have pictures of themselves in their respective studios. Like I get why it makes sense from a narrative standpoint, but WHAT, why would you even.

I thought that Kevin was supposed to be Cecil's double? I think they described them the same except for the smiles on their faces. Which makes me think that Kevin's town is like the evil version of Night Vale (what with the blood and gore).

And yes, I thought the picture thing was odd. Maybe they need a remainder of what they look. :P

They could be pictures of "That time I won an award for that thing" or something similarly commemorative. I also read a theory that Cecil and Carlos are role-reversed in Desert Bluffs, and so the picture that Kevin is comparing himself to is one of Carlos and his perfect hair and the picture that Cecil is comparing himself to is the new arrival Kevin is crushing on.

But what about the double Cecil confessed to meet in the portal? He called it his double, did he not? I assumed that it wasn't Kevin but he did meet his double.

Also, maybe Cecil keeps a picture of himself so that he doesn't forget what he looks like. Because if he forgot maybe he would slip and start changing his appearance accidentally.
