Dean uses a lot of common colloquialisms that many of us eschew because we have learned they are offensive. His stint in suburbia aside, he's never spent much time in an environment that calls for being anything like PC. He learned his company manners in redneck bars. He therefore comes across as buying into common offensive stereotypes more than Sam -- who had a couple years of college to learn that's not polite -- or Castiel -- who doesn't know the stereotypes to begin with.

Agreed. Plus I'd argue that while Dean can be sexist at times, he's never misogynistic. Most of his sexism even seems to be unconscious sexism from the writers, for that matter, and not necessarily intended for being as bad as it comes across. The SPN writers, unfortunately, are incredibly sexist (and occasionally misogynistic). But while it comes out with Dean the most, Sam and Cas also suffer from it.

Yes, I realize this, but I'm still allowed to be annoyed by this aspect of his character. When characters showcase negative characteristics, you can always argue back to the roots of the matter (how they were raised, where they grew up), but that doesn't excuse them of everything.

The one thing I like about season 8 is that they have Dean being more sensitive and talking about his feelings and embracing more feminine characteristics and being less concerned about upholding his machismo, but I feel like the writers are rather incongruent and will have Dean act or say something rather offensive even after more development.

S'reasonable.
