What I want to know is, why every knucklehead who never so much as drabbled before thinks that it's oh-so-easy to become a BNF by writing fic. People can be writing fics for years, heck people can be secret undercover professional writers writing fics for fun, and STILL not be BNFs.

I'm not reading the secret as OP wants to become a BNF, but rather that OP wants to actively participate in fandom by writing, and potentially receive attention from the BNFs of the fandom.

True. And they aren't so much BNFs as the people who are most involved in the fandom.
