There are no 'wrong reasons' to write. You want to communicate with other fans - that's a pretty normal reason to start writing up all your headcanon ideas into fic. Yeah, your first fic is not going to be perfect but if there's a good idea at the core of it it could easily be good. If there's something in there that's worth talking about, people may well reach back and talk to you. Even if they don't do so at first, if you leave thoughtful comments on other people's fics using the same account, you should get some traffic back even if it's not from the specific people you want validation from. Really though the best way to open contact with BNFs is just to talk to them about their work in detail & ask questions about the specifics - pretty well everyone who writes is a sucker for that.

ETA I am just going to quote from the Homestuck Formspring archive because it is about the best statement I've ever read on this topic:

"ive never thought of myself as a writer at all. more of a storyteller, during loftier musings, and a joke teller all other times. writing is one tool i use to tell stories at the moment. its a craft ive improved, semi-deliberately, only for the sake of improving the storytelling process.

in typing out that reason it sounds weird. is there any other reason to do so? when i listen to aspiring writers talk about stuff i often get the sense theyre in it for more than that. like theyre trying to heal some hole in their aura which is preventing them from truly BEING A WRITER. i dont know."
