There is a Big Name Fan in my fandom, who everyone loves. All she has to do is mention she's having a bad day, and the gift!fics and picture spams come flooding in. She runs several fansites, wins awards for her fanfiction and videos, and always tries to welcome new fans to the fandom. Whenever her name comes up people rave on about how sweet and kind she is. She's partially disabled with a severe mental illness, but somehow she always finds time to help other fans, volunteers for charity work, advocates against mental health stigma, is an activist for LGBT rights. Anyone would think she's in the running to be the next Mother Teresa.

The secret... I don't believe any of it, I think she's a liar and a fake. I've been in fandom for years, and all the Big Name Fans I've known have been a bunch of fake ass wankers who hide behind their sycophantic minions. I don't see how she can be any different.

The bigger secret... I've been waiting for her to slip up and show her true colours, but so far she's been too good for that so I've decided I'm going to befriend until I can get enough dirt to knock her off her pedestal.

This probably makes me a misanthrope or something, but fandom deserves to know the truth. NO Big Name Fan can be *that* nice, and it's making me sick watching her take advantage of people with her sweeter than thou act.
