(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)You missed it, man. In the late '90s, there were tons of this stuff. And I was in my early teens, so I lapped it all up.
There were high school AUs. There were "they were kids who grew up in the same neighborhood" AUs. There were countless stories were Jack survived. Many involved he and Rose magically finding free accommodations in NYC. In one of them, they ran a bakery together! In another, he was conscripted and went missing in WWI, and Cal showed up and was all like, "oh yes, the Great War. Father made sure I wouldn't be drafted."
One of the ones I liked involved Rose and Jack having a falling out and Rose finding Ruth and Cal at the Waldorf. She went back to Philadelphia and wound up having a miscarriage. Very well-done. No idea if it's still out there somewhere.
