People tend to care what happens to them first
This does not mean you are unaware of shitty things that happen to others or are lacking in empathy. caring about yourself first does not mean you don't care about others.

ETA: PS, I enjoy the assumption that it is impossible to have immediate loved ones of a different race. A plus.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 12:55 am (UTC)(link)B) You are so unwilling to actually discuss an issue and engage with people who disagree with you that you run the fuck away.
I'm more upset about B than I am about A. Look, if you're going to put forth a proposition and state a position, then have the fucking balls and conviction to defend it. There is nothing more pathetic than someone who states her/his opinion and then says "BYE, I'M DONE" the second that it's challenged. Are you really that insecure? Are your beliefs really so unimportant? Oh, sure, you can say "this is just the internet" -- but then why start the argument at all? And you can say "my point of view doesn't seem to be supported in this comm" -- but why should that make you fold? Do you think it's beneficial in the "real world" for people to throw up their hands and bow out any time they meet resistance, particularly when it comes to social justice?
Flouncing doesn't make any sort of point. It just demonstrates that your fragile ego is more important to you than your cause.
