Just...getting something off my chest

My brother- and sister-in-law have moved to another country. They want us to follow them.

Part of us wants to. But, realistically...

My husband has friends that he does not want to leave. We were considering moving to the opposite coast, and that consideration has largely been shelved, because he doesn't want to be separated from the community he's become involved in. For my part, I am an only child, and my parents are older. When their health fails, I am going to have to take care of them. Could I really move them to a different continent?

I feel so sad when they talk about us moving out there to be with them. I don't know how to say that, as awesome as it would be, we probably won't and can't. But I'm going to have to.

I wish we had no obligations. I wish we could just pick up and go.

If your heart's not in it, don't go. Emigrating is practically and emotionally hard. Once you've moved, it will be hard to come back - for personal and professional reasons, and life back home will have gone on without you. I'd hope they'll understand why you don't want to do it - your reasons make sense and it's not like they'll be under any illusions about this being an easy decision to make.
