1) + 3) I HIGHLY doubt she wishes all characters to be white in all fandoms. That is not at all part of her sentiment. Her sentiment was that she dislikes being given crap for wanting to cosplay her favourite characters when they are of a different race, so she feels a knee-jerk reaction that equates to being happy that most of the characters she enjoys are of her race so that, come time to picking a cosplay, she won't have to pick a 2nd, 3rd, 4th... and so on option for what to cosplay. Her issues would not exist if there were widespread representation of every race and so it would no longer be as big an issue to some to "race-bend" for cosplay.

2) Cosplaying a non-white character while being white is not white-washing. This is getting ridiculous. It's not taking away roles from minorities, it's not harming anyone, it is a very simple expression of love for a character. People should not be shamed to want to represent their favourite characters, even if their build, gender, race, or size is not the same as the character.

4) That's ENTIRELY possible and it happens all the time. Are you not happy to be in the percentile in the world it is that has access to clean water and a computer, while still wishing the whole world were able to have this as well? Being grateful at having a privilege is not at all the same as being happy others do not have it. Being grateful for a privilege is not horrible; not caring or trying to change that privilege is.

You seem to be defending the argument you would have made if you were the OP, rather than what the OP actually said. If OP's words actually seemed to be advocating an equal opportunity world as you are suggesting, I would never have made a negative comment. You have some interesting points but they aren't what I was responding to in the post, so I think we can wrap this up.

Why are you even here making arguments at all?

You are such a self-righteous ass about this crap. "This is not going the way I want it to and people are disagreeing with me so let's just stop talking now!"

Go back to whatever echo-chamber you crawled out of and stop wasting everyone's time.

AYRT, yeah there's lots of different ways to interpret her secret, I'm seeing that now. We seem to have interpreted it basically opposite ways. I guess I just like giving people the benefit of the doubt!

Cool, and thanks for being willing to talk this out. I think the conversation helped us both clarify our positions, and I appreciate it when not every thread degenerates into a shouting match.

You're reading a lot into OP's post like anyone else here.

It's already been established as privileged and a product of whiteness. You seem determined to prove that OP is racist beyond a one sided view and not taking historical context into account, painting them as a white female who enjoys the lack of POC representation while the other commentators are painting them as innocent. There is not enough information to determine either view point and this adds up to the derailment of the subject of privilege and what POC face as cosplayers and the shortage of representation in fandom.

It should be enough to point out that they don't have the proof for OP's good intentions, innocence, whatever, and that OP's lack of explicit acknowledgment of POC issues is greatly problematic in itself regardless of intentions.

And you're reading plenty into my intentions. My interpretation of the post was that OP probably wasn't thinking about the implications of what she was saying. I have no interest or intention in "proving" that they are racist.

"That thing you said is kind of racist" versus "You're racist." (Google Jay Smooth on the topic if you're not familiar w/ the concept.) I'm not trying to see into anybody's heart or make a accusations re: an anon's intentions when I know 17 words of information about them. I'm responding to the words and images that were used and if I'm drawing some conclusions about their implications that's because that's how words and images work. I thought the point of these comments was to discuss the things that people posted in their own right, not to put them on trial for what they probably really meant. Anon I was replying to seemed to be saying that OP's words didn't mean what they said (ie, that they're not glad that most characters in fandom or white when they SPECIFICALLY SAID THAT ABOUT THE ONLY FANDOM WE KNOW THEM TO BE ACTIVE IN.) Other people have been 'rephrasing' the post to make it more politic and in the process adding words and implications that I don't find in the original.

Again, I think I've said what I had to say, and I'm signing off this entire thread. (If possible, try not to reply by calling me a coward and saying I'm running away as a couple anons have deemed appropriate. I've said a whole bunch on this thread, and maybe some people's default is that once you have started a conversation on the Internet it must continue into infinity, but I'm ok with closing statements. Sorry.)
