I suppose what I mean is - I don't need every fic to be all about dealing with homophobia and heteronormativity. But if something happens in the fic where my own experience is that there'd be a rocky moment, and it's completely neutralised without any explanation as to why, I'm more likely to feel alienated from the fic than to enjoy the escapism. I'm sure others feel quite differently.
