I can see how it could get really annoying if it's every fic or every other fic.

Personally, I've actually found it really hard to find decent femslash that deals realistically with prejudice. I don't know why, but it seems to be one of those generic quirks of femslash. Along with a disproportionately high number of first- and second-person POV fics.
