I just wish cosplayers would stop being so damn judgmental about this sort of thing. So long as you aren't doing blackface or anything like it, I don't see why it should matter. Like, I want to cosplay Isabela from Dragon Age 2 so badly. Her personality is basically me, tbh. But I'm really afraid people would scream racist over it since she's obviously supposed to be a PoC of some sort (most say black but I'd argue that a Thedas equivalent of Latin American is also plausible). It's not like I'd blackface, the most I'd do to my skin if anything is get a tan, but I'm just really really afraid to even try. Ugh.

It also disgusts me when black cosplayers get shit for cosplaying characters who aren't black. Ugh. Or any other shit like that. I mean hell there's even this insane subset of people who firmly believe that cosplay, at least of anime characters, is only for Asians and only they can do it right.

All that said, I really want more non-white characters in things. I just wish people would stop screaming racist when white people cosplay those characters. If we aren't doing anything dumb like blackface, what's the damn problem? We aren't taking your rare PoC character away from you. The actual character is still whatever ethnicity they canonically are. Said white cosplayer just happens to like them enough to dress up as them. How does that hurt you? It doesn't. What's next, "only lesbians are allowed to cosplay Batwoman or else that's offensive"?
