I'm kinda surprised so many people fap to their own smut. My writing is still writing and I'm still too critical of it to whack off while re-reading what I wrote, but maybe I'm just weird?

No, I'm surprised too. For me, getting turned on by my own porn is like trying to tickle myself. (NO, that is not a euphemism. You know what I mean.) The exception is when it's something I wrote a long time ago and haven't looked at for so long that I don't remember it very well.

Me too. It doesn't feel any different than writing any other scene. I keep going over it and making sure it's right and of course I always know what happens next.

YANA. I can't step away from my writing enough to get turned on by it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I'm almost the exact opposite: I get so turned on that I start finding it hard to write!

For some reason, I'm able to compartmentalize it. When I'm writing smut for myself, my concern for quality is rather muted. It's when I'm writing something that's also intended to be read by others that my inner critic steps in.

Granted, I don't slack off when writing personal smut; practice is practice. But I care quite a bit less, if that makes sense.

They all started out as my fantasies anyway, so re-reading it is just revisiting the fantasy. IDK, I can be critical and turned on a the same time.

I've fapped to mine. Mostly because I was like "WHOA WHY DOESN'T THIS FIC EXIST YET THE IDEA IS SO HOT" and then writing it turned me on like... a ridiculous amount. I mean, you're imagining the scene, right? And thinking how to phrase it (and usually using language that other writers' have used to turn you on), so things just happen.

Man, the only femslash I've ever written, I almost couldn't finish before basically throwing my computer across the room and getting it on with myself. It was a very near thing.

I feel you. Sometimes planning the scene and stuff gets me so distracted I have to take a break to fap. But then my motivation to finish the fic kind of is done too. Alas.

Hey, different strokes for different folks, and all that.

I don't actively fap to my smut scenes, but I do get turned on. If I'm not turned on, then, for me, something's wrong with the scene and it needs reworking. Maybe I'm just lucky that editing becomes part and parcel, because if the images I'm trying to paint with words aren't clear (and I'm a stickler for spelling/using just the right words), then it annoys me and kills the buzz.
