(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 12:57 am (UTC)(link)Super junior has 13 members, but one of their subunits had two different members who only appear in said subunit- so if you include them, there're 15. It's just a coincidence.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 02:05 am (UTC)(link)A bit more context for why the 13 vs. 15 comment was a trolling-type joke:
Around the time the subunit in question was created, there was ~drama in the fandom b/c some of the fans were dead-set against expanding the group. They adopted the catchphrase "Only 13," which then got applied to these fans themselves as an identifier.
I think at least one of the new subunit members, Henry Lau, was actually intended to be part of the main group; Lau's Taiwanese Canadian, and hence could have been intended to help capture the overseas market. However, the backlash was so vicious (Only13 fans protesting outside the record label's offices, booing Lau every time he appeared onstage with Super Junior, sending him hate mail and death threats) that the record label dropped that idea and made Lau and another new member part of the subunit without officially inducting them into Super Junior.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 04:56 am (UTC)(link)Eh, not everyone. I was pretty heavily into k-pop, including Super Junior, for a couple of years, and I was friends with a number of k-pop fans who were perfectly lovely people.
Otoh, I do think that the self-entitled, bullying portion of k-pop fandom is larger than that of most RPF fandoms, and that those fans tend to be very extreme and very vocal.

Oh, I should've said "most music fandoms"; I wasn't really thinking about the meaning of the acronym when I used it. (I was in k-pop for the music and the fic about equally, but of course that's not true for most of its fans.)
