Re: What do you think of the Olympics boycott?

Ignoring the "sport is a cancer" stuff, I don't actually think boycotting the Olympics will work in this case. People seem to think that turning the channel to their favorite show will help keep it on air but that's not how ratings work. Not watching the Olympics won't have much of an effect.

Now, raising a shitstorm might do something, even if it's in the form of "say you'll boycott". It won't stop the Olympics from happening because it's such a hugely expensive event. I know lots of people wished we could just switch it to Vancouver because they so recently hosted, but Vancouver probably can't withstand it after the last Olympics.

But maybe such a shitstorm could cause lots of fall-out in terms of sponsors (if they're gutsy) and Olympians (if they care enough). I'm not sure what that would do really. I just know it would increase discussion and maybe change some minds... ugh. I feel it's hopeless.
