in my playthrough where i romanced garrus, i picked the destroy ending besides being primarily paragon. the destroy ending always seemed out of the question for me but i just kinda wanted to try it.

i've yet to do the control ending (waiting on money to buy some dlc) but the synthesis ending was the first one i picked. it was a little creepy in its own way; i know it's supposed to be a "neutral" ending but the implications of that decision weighed kinda heavy on me. i mostly picked it because i romanced thane but i also had almost all the war assets available, so i'd survive the destroy option but the control option would leave me kinda... eternally alive? not really me but also not dead, and i wanted to meet thane across the sea, so i picked synthesis.

i know people argue that shepard wasn't equipped to make that decision for everybody, and i agree to some extent since the consequences of that decision are really critical, but whatever. in the end it did the most good for the most people. not only were the reapers stopped, but all races were spared (unless you couldn't save both the geth and the quarians), and the reapers helped rebuild what they'd destroyed. it still weirds me out that everyone is alive but also partially synthetic?? but idk, i think the implication there was that the change everyone faced was for the better, even if we may not agree.

the destroy ending tears me up because i love robots, i love the geth to bits and killing edi (and glyph, wtf) is really upsetting. and i do think it's the worst ending, even if it's the only one that lets you do what you've been trying to do the entire trilogy. i think some people pick it because saren's mindset was more in alignment with the synthesis ending, and the illusive man was partial to controlling them; their failures might turn some players off to the idea of those options, even if the starchild did explain why all options would work under shepard's direction. still tho i really felt bad picking the destruction ending. so far i liked the synthesis ending better but i've yet to pick control, like i said.

eta: another thing that really bugged me was how little foresight given to the player regarding the final decisions. like the game led you to believe the whole time that you must destroy the reapers and then it suddenly thrusts two other options at you at random. idk the ending of me3 had a lot of problems, even with the extended cut (and thank god i played me3 with the extended cut already downloaded cuz i read up on the differences and i would have been real pissed without it).

This is basically how I felt about Synthesis, and the endings in general, this and the fact that it felt like a deus ex. I would give lots for a destroy-only-the-reapers ending.
