I've played through both the Synthesis and Destroy endings, and watched the Control ending on YouTube - while I like having an ending where your friends all survive, I can't actually see someone in Shepard's position choosing it. There isn't any reason to trust anything the Catalyst says, and many reasons not to.

Whenever I do a Synthesis play through I have to justify it as Shepard being half out of his/her head due to blood loss/physical trauma (shot, burned, bones broken, etc) and the fact that they are quite likely in the process of dying at the time.
