Did anyone think to ask someone who actually wears a burqa if they find this insulting?

Did this occur to anyone

Yes, and someone (a woman who wears the burqa) wrote an article about it, saying that it was controversial, but she approved of the msg behind it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It was mostly non-Muslims who were in an uproar but some Muslims said they were fine with it.

lmao that's hilarious. I feel like it's that way with a lot of SJ issues especially on Tumblr - the ones getting all up in arms about it are sometimes not even involved in the issue.

As a Muslim, I'd say I approve of the message but I'd prefer that she didn't do it like that. I thought it was kind of disrespectful myself and yeah, I kind of stopped listening to Lady Gaga because of it too. Oh, and her fans are idiots.

Yeah. I've generally stayed away from this stuff but I follow a (very) few Muslim women on tumblr, most of whom wear burqas, and they were all really upset.

I haven't really seen any white (non-Muslim) people talk about it except one dude but he was talking about how it wasn't racist and then called everyone who was calling him racist, racist so...

*shrug* This is the first time I've seen anyone who wasn't Muslim upset by it. Maybe my experiences are just outliers though. Unsure. In any case, my anecdotal evidence isn't really reliable here since it's just my word. I would hope people who are upset by it are listening to the people who are actually affected by it. If not they're just as bad.

o__0 Burquas are pretty rare, are you sure you don't mean niqabs?

Omg I am an idiot.

I meant a hijab. For some reason the two words blipped in my brain into one for some reason. I... I'm so sorry.

Please ignore me while I go stand in a corner.

aw chill! I was wondering because I used to live in parts of the UK where you'd see women in niqabs now and then but I aint never seen a burqa. All makes sense now.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Do we know if the OP wears a burqa? A lot of people seem to be assuming it's non-Muslim liberal guilt or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've come across a ton of Muslims who were totally okay with it. Some others are offended. It's just one of those things where there isn't going to be any kind of consensus.

But yeah to be honest most of the people enraged are either white people or at the very least POC who aren't Muslim. It's odd that SJW get on the case of people for 'speaking for minorities they aren't a part of' and yet they do exactly that.

And this is exactly my issue with SJW's all across the internet.

+1 that and the fetishistic Tumblrs of TAB SJWs that are basically objectifying PWD that make me simultaneously side-eye and back-button NOPE NOPE NOPE out of there.

TAB SJWs that are basically objectifying PWD

Could someone please tell me what this means?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Temporarily able-bodied social justice warriors are basically objectifying people with disabilities.

Basically, people without disabilities objectifying people with disabilities.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
also seing lots of (and knowing in person 2) white SJWs all over everyones case calling racist/appropriation n stuff and then fetishizing this or that POC(!!)actor (at least be so respectful as to look up their country and call them whatever people are called where they're from! grr...) like hell, thinking they're "empowering" them.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
If by that you mean the general hypocrisy, then agreed. That's my issue, too.

The Muslim women I know who wear hijab are pretty pissed off, albeit in a "It's Gaga, what the fuck do you expect" eye-rolling kind of a way.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but you are taking away Gaga stan's claim that only non-Muslim SJW are upset how dare you u r SJW
