So what you're asking is: Would you rather be hated and discriminated against by bigots (some of whom may pose an actual threat to your physical well-being), or be completely ignored except when smug assholes are telling you that you're a liar?

It's certainly an interesting question. I'm already part of two separate demographics, one that fits the first type you described and one that fits the second type. Given the choice to stop being in either of those demographics I think I would decide to stay the way I am.
