Re: man, you guys, i am way sorry
(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 12:06 am (UTC)(link)Like I say, I might not agree with them, but if they don't think they can forgive dt, they don't think they can forgive dt. You can't make 'em.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 01:14 am (UTC)(link)But you can criticize that person for it, just as you can criticize them for treating an admission of wrongdoing as worthy of dismissal.
Part of the problem with a lot of social justice activists is that when someone says, "hey, you guys are right. That was a really shitty position for me to take. I am now ready to take a stand against oppression," the reaction is "FUCK YOU. WHAT YOU PREVIOUSLY SAID IS UNFORGIVABLE. YOU ARE ALWAYS BAD FOREVER AND EVER. GO AWAY." What sort of progress do you think that engenders?
What is the point of saying, "your position is problematic and you should change it" if when said person makes that change you reject him or her on the grounds that s/he once had a problematic position?

What they are usually is teenagers (either literally or mentally) who don't understand that society includes those people they dislike, and that those people they dislike are always going to be there.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 02:47 am (UTC)(link)But I don't see that that's what happened here? I see "I was personally offended and do not forgive you for offending me." They didn't say "your position is problematic," they didn't say fuck you, and they didn't say go away. They said they were offended and that the apology didn't change that.
