Could you explain why you think your opinion should have any deciding factor circumstances not your own? Why do you think you somehow know better than the woman whose life this choice affects?

Reading their more recent response, I have no doubts that this is just that troll person who pretends to hate men and whatnot to stir up drama.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-08-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well seeing as this was a bit more subtle apparently they're learning. :/ But I'm not going to consider this wasted effort. There's always someone else reading.

Anon you're talking about.

What does hating men have to do with anything that's being said here?

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Because abortion ends a life, and I think we as a society need to be very careful about the circumstances under which we say that's OK.

The human population has reached critic mass at this point. If we continue to increase our population, we will eventually run out of resources. A large amount of the population will starve to death.

Life isn't as important as you think it is. A fetus is not a human being, and it should be up to the mother to decide whether or not this hunk of cells gets to develop in her womb or not. The Earth will not miss that fetus.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Continue to increase the population at the current rate*

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
your first paragraph is mostly incorrect. the human population is dense in many areas but if dispersed evenly throughout the livable areas of the planet, we'd have many miles between us. food is scarce in less privileged/more dense regions because we are not good at handling food, as a world population, but there should not be scarcity if managed properly. the population is expected to plateau at around 9-11 billion people, if nothing about our living/reproduction habits changes anytime soon.

also, a foetus is a human being?? it's human, that's biologically what it is. did you mean it's not a person? because i'd agree, i'm js. in any case, the earth misses very few people, and in a few billion years' time, this universe won't find even remains of us. in summary your argument doesn't make any sense. there are much better ways to defend abortion, like women being people who deserve to choose whether or not to be pregnant.

And by we you mean you. And by circumstances you mean taking someone's personal liberty, safety, and happiness away so the child can either grow up most likely unwanted and possibly in disadvantaged circumstances or be added to the already overburdened adoption/foster care system.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

No, I mean society, but thanks for playing.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-08-14 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay. As long as society agrees with you.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
What, you don't think the circumstances under which we kill people is a thing for society to think about? Okay then. Mass murders for everybody! Nowhere did I say everyone had to agree with me, so right now you're just beating your own drum because...what? Just like hearing yourself talk? Do you feel superior now? Glad I could help with that.

Your little backtrack about ~society~ was in response to me asking about your opinion and why you think it should have any weight on another person's life.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a backtrack. I think my opinion has weight, because I am a part of society and the way society treats life and death is something everybody has a say in.

So babies growing up miserable and unloved are a-okay as long as they're alive?

Like, quality of live, pfft, who cares about that?

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you assume they'll grow up miserable and unloved? That's just ignorant. Not to mention you can grow up without a good home life and still value that same life. Wow, I repeat: ignorant. And majorly offensive.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
If I was forced to keep a kid I didn't want, I would resent the hell out of that kid, just like my mother resented me. So...you know. Accurate real life examples aren't ignorant.

Adoption. It's a thing.

Yeah if you're a cute white baby.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

You got anything to back that claim up? Because it looks like a scapegoat to me.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

Spoken like someone who doesn't know a single goddamn thing about adoption.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that that is something we should be careful about. And I think that "when that life requires the non-consensual occupation or usage of another person's body" is an acceptable circumstance. In no other case is one person allowed to use any portion of another person's body to sustain their own life against that other person's will. I think depriving a person of ownership of their own body is something else that we, as a society, need to be very careful about the circumstances under which we say it's okay.

Re: These are my CONFESSIONS....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-14 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
i'm not pro-life but something you have to understand about people who are is that they aren't being anti-choice because they're necessarily opposed to what we support, ie. women's rights/seeing women as people/etc. they factor in another element that complicates things for them. their views are not the exact opposite of the pro-choice movement, despite many pro-choice people assuming this is the case.

pro-life people do this to the pro-choice movement as well, it's not just a one-sided issue. really i think if everybody took a moment to evaluate where the other opinion is coming from, they'd realise that they're mostly in agreement, except in their ultimate conclusion.

a pro-life person who opposes abortion on a viable foetus generally does so because they consider that viable foetus deserving of life, and a woman's right to remove the foetus from her body doesn't supersede that "right to life" for them. i'm not saying it's right (i don't personally think it is) but your implication seems to be that pro-life people are pro-life solely because they want to control women, or hate them, or whatever.

Thank you for this comment. Even if we don't agree, it's nice to see someone not immediately going all reactionary "Why do you hate women?!"

DA

a pro-life person who opposes abortion on a viable foetus generally does so because they consider that viable foetus deserving of life, and a woman's right to remove the foetus from her body doesn't supersede that "right to life" for them.

That requires them to think that the fetus has the right to use the woman's body regardless of whether she consents to that use. No other person has the right to use another's body without their consent, regardless of the reason. Whether they've thought through the implications or not, an anti-choice person thinks a woman should have fewer rights to her own body than other people have to theirs. That seems both hateful and controlling to me.
