i'm not pro-life but something you have to understand about people who are is that they aren't being anti-choice because they're necessarily opposed to what we support, ie. women's rights/seeing women as people/etc. they factor in another element that complicates things for them. their views are not the exact opposite of the pro-choice movement, despite many pro-choice people assuming this is the case.

pro-life people do this to the pro-choice movement as well, it's not just a one-sided issue. really i think if everybody took a moment to evaluate where the other opinion is coming from, they'd realise that they're mostly in agreement, except in their ultimate conclusion.

a pro-life person who opposes abortion on a viable foetus generally does so because they consider that viable foetus deserving of life, and a woman's right to remove the foetus from her body doesn't supersede that "right to life" for them. i'm not saying it's right (i don't personally think it is) but your implication seems to be that pro-life people are pro-life solely because they want to control women, or hate them, or whatever.

Thank you for this comment. Even if we don't agree, it's nice to see someone not immediately going all reactionary "Why do you hate women?!"

DA

a pro-life person who opposes abortion on a viable foetus generally does so because they consider that viable foetus deserving of life, and a woman's right to remove the foetus from her body doesn't supersede that "right to life" for them.

That requires them to think that the fetus has the right to use the woman's body regardless of whether she consents to that use. No other person has the right to use another's body without their consent, regardless of the reason. Whether they've thought through the implications or not, an anti-choice person thinks a woman should have fewer rights to her own body than other people have to theirs. That seems both hateful and controlling to me.
