Is that Riker? He looks so weird without facial hair.

First season Riker is baby Riker.

This is totally canon, he mentioned that one guy even called him "Ensign Baby Face" when he served on The Pegasus because of his youthful appearance.

Then he added the beard and BAM adult Riker.

You're, uh, going to provide us with links, right? Just for, um, context.

Most people slash ship Riker/Wesley and Picard/Data. I do like Riker/Data, but not like burning. It's a decent ship, though.

I never really thought about Wesley ships (bar one mentally scarring fic with, uh, Melissa Picard) but now that I think about it Riker really was kind of...fascinated with him. Especially 1st season Riker, who was pretty much a giant creeper.

OT but when the series started when I was little I was totally convinced that Westley from the Princess Bride was going to be running around on a spaceship.

I thought most people slashed Geordi with Data, not Picard!

So did I. Granted, I haven't actually read TNG fic, but from their interaction in canon you'd think that Geordi/Data would be the go-to Data ship.

i started watching ST:TNG about a year ago and i was shipping riker/data so hard, but it just DOESN'T EXIST.

I wonder was the fandom would be like for TNG if it were a major show today. Would Data be the fandom bicycle, much to the angst of the hardcore Geordi/Data OTPers? Would Picard and Q be the major slash ship? How many gifs would there be of Troi and Riker staring deeply into each others eyes, captioned with 'Imzadi'? And think of all the fix-it fics for Yar's death.

...I never considered Picard/Q until this moment, but now I am all the fuck about it.

P/Q already was the only slash ship with any major presence as I remember it. It was still tiny though.

Picard/Crusher was the TNG ship. It was absolutely massive. It ran laps around every other type of fic coming out of the TNG fandom. I do wonder sometimes if that would still be the case if it were airing today.

Um...does anyone like Yar? And fix-it fics wouldn't be necessary, TNG did it so many times for everyone, if they wanted it or not.

[Picture is Data and William Riker from the TV show "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Data is an android with pale skin and short dark brown hair slicked back. He is wearing a dark yellow uniform with some black on the neck and shoulders. Riker has light skin and short brown hair, and is wearing a similar uniform, but it has red instead of yellow and some black on the stomach and sides. There is dust over his clothes. Data is smiling at him, and he returns the stare seriously or expectantly.

I shipped them like burning. I even wrote a bunch of fics and drew some comics and sketches. Porn too.

That's the scene from the pilot where Data pulls Riker to his feet super-easily and Riker gives him that incongruously goopy gaze, right? I remember that being a really slashy scene, even if I never really thought about shipping them. I think I once saw some hardcore non-con doujinshi (sp?) on 4chan involving this pairing, but it was in japanese so I didn't understand it.

They're nonexistent? Awwww, that's too bad. I think fic about them could be pretty damn interesting.

So, I'm curious -- what plot would you like a Riker/Data fic to have?

On the feelingsy side, I'm thinking about Riker getting super-fascinated by and attracted to and falling for Data after studying him in so much detail in "The Measure of a Man" and going through the fear of almost losing a friend, but not acting on his feelings because he still has ~guilt~ about having to prosecute him and therefore there is ~angst~. Or on the lighter side, Data sees that Riker is the most sexually active person who he knows well, so he goes to him to ask if he would help his curiosity about human sexuality. And of course Riker is just as curious as Data so he does.

I think you need to share your work with the world. The Rare Pair Committee need people like you to spread the word that sailing the small ships is acceptable.
