I completely agree with this. The three-eyed white Cecil fanart is getting so bland and boring, especially since most people draw him in a sweater vest or nicer clothing. He'd dress horribly and look much older than most people draw him, all of this drawing from canon. The tattoos that people give him make no sense, since while eyeballs and tentacles are cool and creepy to us, they're just standard fare in Night Vale. Why would Cecil have something like that? I feel like there's so many things to explore and the fanart barely scrapes the surface and just uses the same headcanon as everyone else.

How old does he look in canon? *curious*

There isn't a set age for him in canon, but he does talk about his college life and mentions how long ago it was, and he's been in Night Vale for a long time. Most people draw him to look like he's in his 20s when 35+ is probably a much better range.

In fairness he *does* talk about going backpacking in Europe before college - and refers to it as something happened several years ago...So, it would be logical to assume somewhere in late-20's, probably later?

My headcanon is that he's in his 30's though so.

EDIT: I just read the anon's comment and basically, yeah that.

Eyeball tattoos I don't mind, but I don't understand the tentacles. Unless he's being slowly absorbed (promoted?) into management. But his reaction to management suggests tentacles are not something to aspire to...?

Yeah, the tentacles throw me off, too. Other than "lol tentacles", there is nothing in canon to support that claim. People have argued that the scene during his backpacking trip where he comes into the pub and everyone stares at him strangely is proof that he looks weird, but what they might have missed is that it's heavily implied that all the people in that pub are either dead or zombies/skeletons so they don't actually stare at him.

What if you draw him in a sweater vest and tie and all (Sandstorm DOES mention he wears a tie at least part of the time), but in horrible eyebleaching clashing colours and patterns? 8D

(I mean. Tunic and furry pants. Dude is not the pinnacle of fashion.)

Just to answer the main secret, though, I don't draw him looking like the real Cecil because that DOES stray uncomfortably close to RPF for me, and Sandstorm also mentions that he does have hair. Of course, I can't decide what the hell he DOES look like (drawn him three times, DIFFERENT EVERY TIME), so. Who knows.
