Sort of the same? I can understand why people don't do it - it could get pretty easy to feel like it's rps-ish that way. But I completely agree about the interns.

[Also, I love the VA [I know his name is the same as the characters] for totally playing along with the fandom from what I've seen.]

More like "fandom isn't into people being exclusively white." Whether or not people like balding is debatable, but from what I've seen of Night Vale fandom, they want a little more diversity than yet another white dude.

I might get into Night Vale fanart if more of it looked like the real Cecil. He's so cute! It's a shame fandom isn't into the balding. Though it might explain why he's so obsessed with Carlos's hair.

I hate the third eye, too. It's not visually appealing and it feels like no one appreciates the sacrifice of all those dead interns, doing what they can to get updates on new stories. Maybe fanart will never be for me.

I don't follow Night Vale fanart (I've seen a single comic, about the floating cat giving birth), so I don't know what all this about a third eye is, or how it connects to the interns. Clarify?

I pretty much like all Cecils so I wouldn't mind seeing this version. Seriously, as long as you can draw well I'll probably reblog your Cecil no matter what he looks like.

I'd actually be interested in fic/fanart that revealed there was something off about Carlos. Canon wise I don't want him to be anything other than human but in fic I think it would be an interesting avenue to pursue.

Anyway, sucks that you don't like what's out there, OP. Your best bet is to get other people to like your interpretation so that it grows. Best of luck.

I completely agree with this. The three-eyed white Cecil fanart is getting so bland and boring, especially since most people draw him in a sweater vest or nicer clothing. He'd dress horribly and look much older than most people draw him, all of this drawing from canon. The tattoos that people give him make no sense, since while eyeballs and tentacles are cool and creepy to us, they're just standard fare in Night Vale. Why would Cecil have something like that? I feel like there's so many things to explore and the fanart barely scrapes the surface and just uses the same headcanon as everyone else.

Ugh, the third eye thing really bugs me. Surely the point is that everything is funnier if he's just a normal guy? Also aesthetically it's just silly to me. I only just saw that pic of the VA yesterday, and actually I'm starting to like it. Though I do appreciate the fluffy-haired guy tumblr is throwing around (minus the tattoos and third eye)

And I didn't realise the eye thing allowed him to see the stories as they progressed? Uh, no. Canon has him clearly receiving notes or whatever, information from a source. As for when they don't have that - have people never listened to radio before? Though, it does seem to be a tumblr thing so it's hardly surprising...

I've tried drawing Cecil with a third eye (since it was the norm for the fandom), but I don't...dig it, so I just stopped entirely drawing him with extra appendages or weird shit. At the very least, when I draw Cecil I know that this is Cecil, not Aziraphale. Srsly, fandom. Most of you are actually drawing Aziraphale, not Cecil. (The same also applies to Carlos/Will Graham too, though not to the extreme similarities)

And you know, OP, I think the third eye headcanon stems from the fact that the real Baldwin has an eye tattoo on his left chest--although making the fictional Cecil has a third eye on his chest is already way too RPF for me so I don't do that either.

Yeah, ever since I saw a picture of RL Cecil I can't picture him otherwise, and he is adorable. I actually don't think I've seen ANY fanart based on the voice actor, although given the fact that they already share a name it might be intentional on behalf of fanartists to maintain a distance between the character (and all the porny fanart) and the actual person, like for google searches and stuff.

I don't particularly follow NV's fanart outside of what gets posted on my dash, but I agree the third eye looks (ironically) out of place. I like normal!looking Cecil because it makes the stories 10000% more amusing.

And I remember the VA has an eye tattoo on his chest?? Or maybe he did it with a sharpie, who knows.

Also, as for the balding thing, I always thought that was covered in the Sandstorm, when Cecil/Kevin mention, "He has hair, like mine." If he was bald/shaved, the line would have been different.

Yeah, the third eye and the tattoos are getting more annoying now that they are basically the default. I don't know why but I actually imagine Cecil as basically a 1950s radio announcer with a suit and tie, slicked back hair, all that stuff. He's even black and white.

The popular fanart appearances for characters are my favorite things about this fandom, because they're interesting and unusual and interracial (whether or not any of it's canon.)

Also, having Cecil look like his VA would feel a little too RPFy for me.

Yeah, the third eye thing bugs me. I reference it in like, Cecil's clothes. (I usually make his bowtie have an eye pattern) One person did it brilliantly, making his recording headphones sentient with eyes in the ear pieces.

I didn't think of "He likes Carlos' hair because he's bald", I just thought he appreciated hair (I do) though I like the theory. I think they're both graying, personally.

Anyway I just get to see people I follow on tumblr/twitter complain about people drawing him as white. Like once someone decided he was some shade of brown? Shit you better not do anything else or you've hopped about the racism train.
