I think this is a big part of the problem. People currently in fandom went in expecting the same magical moments they had as a child, and that's not a terribly reasonable expectation. TPatF had flaws, but no more or less than any of the DisneyRen films. The difference is that the people into fandom are pretty media savvy and are evaluating it on a completely different frame of reference than they were evaluating movies on when they were five.

My own young children ranked Tiana as their... fourth? favourite princess. I know Merida, Rapunzel and Mulan are their first three and Tiana is pretty close after them. Tiana would probably move up a tier if she came with a horse, actually. *lol* They were underwhelmed by the music the first time they watched the film, but now listen/sing it on a regular basis. When they are old enough to participate in fandom, I can see TPatF getting more appreciation.

Eh. I'm an adult, and when I go into a Disney/Pixar film I'm still able to get that feeling if it's an excessively good one. Honestly most of my favorites were released well into my teenage years and twenties. I'm actually more appreciative of this stuff now than I was as a kid.
