- People who play up how being a server is an especially difficult job and omg you just don't know how hard it is to remember an order and deal with customers. Fuck off and go ask a nurse, firefighter, or police officer what a stressful job is. That's not to say it isn't often a job that is hard or stressful, but appreciate what you're doing at the end of the day.

- Anyone who has ever asked to see a manager in any situation short of an employee having kidnapped your children. If I could dedicate my life to making this sort of person aware of what a petty human being they were being I would.

as someone in the food/beverage industry, my experience with it is that people who complain aren't doing so because they think other jobs aren't stressful. their implication is that they wish everyone worked at least SOME time in food service, to better understand how things work. people who haven't spent any time in food service tend to be the most nitpicky and least understanding about things like dishes being cold, orders not being correct, slowness of service, etc. not usually being the server's fault. you're from the uk, right? iirc you guys aren't big on tipping like some places are, but when patrons tip here it's generally a reflection of how well they feel their server did. if people don't recognise that many things that can go wrong in food service aren't due to server errors, they can end up stiffing their servers because of it. most jobs are difficult, stressful and demanding at times, but when most of your income is being decided by people who may or may not know the ropes in food service, it's really no wonder why a lot of servers find their jobs "especially difficult," as you said. i personally would be fine with people bitching at me for things that were out of my control if they weren't the ones paying the rent and shit.
