Re: Welcome to Night Vale Discussion Post (spoilers)

Immune, maybe...? IF he's connected to Night Vale itself. There's a theory going around (because the official Night Vale fandom theme song has got to be I've Got A Theory at this point, and bunnies ARE plausible!) that Night Vale protects Cecil and the things/people he likes. Carlos is protected from most of the weird lethal shit, Intern Dana, who he seemed to get on really well with, is alive and while in the Dog Park, and even he manages to be mostly unscathed from meetings with Station Management, possession by the Glow Cloud, et cetera. So maybe he has immunity from the subway effect.

On the other hand, maybe not, because, yeah, never been stated one way or another. Theeeooories!

Yeah, I know all the headcanons. I sometimes wonder though if he gets through it all simply because of luck and strong fortitude. Which is why he never just breaks down from it all. The thing is, with all of these theories, and their explanations for his survival, they only cover for themselves so you have to make an excuse for every version and such a prospect makes me cross-eyed.

I want more wild theories for everyone in fandom. Each time a brand new theory pops up I always find it so exciting. Someone did a joke theory that Cecil was a dog, which I found funny.

So, do you have set headcanons or do you just swim through them all whenever you feel like?

Heh, that or he's reeducated roughly every seven and a half hours, and nothing bothers him any more...

Oh god, I have no headcanons that are actually fixed XD I especially can't even decide on what Cecil looks like, aside from Oh Dear God Who Let You Pick Out Your Own Outfits. (TUNIC AND FURRY PANTS. I'M JUST SAYING.) I mostly pick whatever works for that particular scenario.

That would be so sad. It reminds me of a fic where something like that happens and he keeps forgetting his relationship with Carlos.

Naw! High-five! We're he same. I just like to pretend he has better fashion sense most of the time? Maybe? I don't know. Same here. I almost wish we would get something canon and then really wish we wouldn't because I love what the fans have made. They're going to do a live show soon so I don't know how that's going to go. Oh, and also a book.

Ooh, I've read that one - reeducation-induced dementia. That was... ouch, and I am very glad there was an epilogue.

I kinda love NOT having any canon XD And yeah, I'm looking forward to those! Not sure if confirmed, but Kevin may be reappearing?

There wasn't an epilogue in the one I read. It was sad.

Me too. It makes adjustment smoother from one kind of story to the next.

Wait, really? Kevin? Where did you hear this?

Ouch, okay... it looks like it was added later? It's on AO3 here.

Huh, it might have been Tumblr. The official website doesn't mention it. (It DOES mention Mara Wilson. Yay!)

Oh, that's a completely different fic. The one I read was here. It's not too sad? I think. Well, it's sad but- I don't know.

How sad is the fic you just linked? (I'm now kinda worried. X_x)

Well we will wait and see!

Oh OUCH. That is... horribly plausible, yes.

I think it's particularly heartbreaking, but the epilogue gives it a happy - well, a hopeful - ending.

I just like to pretend he has better fashion sense most of the time?

I just assume that the tunic and furry trousers are standard first-date wear in Night Vale and his usual clothing is closer to what we'd consider normal (or at least what Night Vale would consider normal). Maybe the townsfolk even considered it a little gauche that Carlos wasn't similarly attired, but they're inclined to be kind to him because he's new, and of course Cecil doesn't care what Carlos wears as long as he's there and perfect.

Oooo! That's an interesting thought. The thing is, I'm fine with the tunic. It's just the fuzzy pants! Agh, fuzzy pants. Thanks for that headcanon.

Are they good? I haven't heard of them.

www.thrillingadventurehour.com, and all the episodes are available on iTunes. It's a monthly live comedy show in Los Angeles, done in the style of an old-time radio show and released weeklyish as a podcast (there are multiple segments to each live show, and the segments are released as individual episodes). Stars a lot of people you've probably heard of if you're more celebrity-aware than I am, a lot of people even I've heard of, and a fleet of guest stars who everybody's heard of. Regular segments include Sparks Nevada, Marshall on Mars (a 50s sci-fi/Western parody) and its less-frequent spinoff Cactoid Jim (starring Nathan Fillion), Captain Laserbeam (think Adam West's Batman), Beyond Belief (if Nick and Nora Charles were paranormal investigators; the fan favorite and my personal favorite), and several others that I can't think of right now. Rarely laugh-out-loud funny to me, but always entertaining and clever.

Sounds really interesting. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!
