Good for you, OP. The Disney Fairies line has its flaws, but I enjoy it. It's one of the few Disney lines that puts more emphasis on the girls' relationships with each other than with guys, and it deserves more credit for that.

you can always support the franchise by buying notebooks and stuff like that vOv

[Picture is the Disney fairies from the franchise of the same name wearing winter clothes. They are all humanoid young-female-teenage-looking beings with gossamer wings and are smiling at each other. Vidia (light olive skin, long dark blue hair in ponytail, purple, pink and wine color themed), Rosetta (light olive skin, long red hair pulled back, red and white color themed), Tinkerbell (light skin, yellow hair in a bun, green color themed), Periwinkle (rosy light skin and white hair pulled back, light blue and white color themed), Silvermist (light olive skin and long black hair, light and dark blue color themed), Fawn (olive skin and long brown hair pulled back in a braid, orange, brown and yellow color themed), and Iridessa (dark skin and long dark brown hair in a bun, yellow, brown and orange color themed).]

I dislike eighty percent of Disney movies, toylines and merch. I hate Disney's Peter Pan... BUT I LOVE THIS. It's so well written and funny and doesn't talk down to kids. I want everyone to know that Disney Fairies are amazing! I just wish I had the guts to admit my love for it in real life.

I'm twenty-six and I feel like a creep. I don't want people to think I'm into it for "sexy fairy plot" or something like that.

I'm 26 and the Disney Fairies is one of my guilty pleasures. It's surprisingly a lot better than most people would think, imho.

This! I turn 27 in a week. I watched the Tinker Bell movie on a whim one night cause it was on cable and I was surprised by how good it was. Since then I've been carefully trying to catch the movies on TV when no one is home (though with limited success =( ). The Tinker bell movies remind me a bit of My Little Pony, and I love the fact that it's a show about GIRLS and their relationships. Plus the animation is gorgeous.

I love most of the fairies design, but uuuhh I really don't like just how un-Tinkerbell Tinkerbell is there. I just watched it in passing when my sis watched it, and her personality really differs from her in Peter Pan :(

In Peter Pan she was a jealous bitch. That was her personality.

The Fairies line actually gives her a REAL personality with some instances of her stubbornness and her penchant for getting "red" when angry.

Peter Pan!Tink is boring as fuck.

I never liked Tinkerbell, but for some reason I really enjoy the Tinkerbell/Fairy movies. I only started watching them because of my daughter, but out of all the princess movies she watches, the fairies are easier somehow. I'm happy they've been streaming on Netflix, but if they ever aren't, I'll probably buy them.

I have been looking for things to add to my Netflix queue; I'll have to check these out.

I like the Secret of the Wings most, but the others are good, too.

I absolutely LOVE Tinkerbell! Funny enough so does my cousin, and she's your same age. It's not perfect, but it is really cute and I enjoy it a lot. :)

Then again, I love fairies and Peter Pan a lot so I could be /slightly/ biased.

No, I totally know what you mean, OP! I watched a bit of one of these shows and I just couldn't help thinking, "Wow, the graphic, the writing, the plot...this is SO GOOD. I'd have been in love with this show when I was ten!"

I wish it had been there for me then. I seriously needed some pro-girl, sweet, lighthearted stuff to get into and make me feel better about my gender and think "girls can have adventures, too!"

It makes me feel hopeful for girls today that they have something so beautiful and good to like. :)

I'm suddenly hearing a lot of good things about this everywhere...

Can anyone tell me a bit more about it? I am genuinely curious. Most kids' shows are pretty condescending and downright stupid even when you're actually a kid, let alone an adult who sometimes wishes to try and enjoy kid-oriented media again. What's different about this one? From Disney and from kids' TV shows in general?

Oh yay, an excuse to dump all of my Tinker Bell feels! XD

These movies are based on a series of books (look up "Fairy Dust and the Quest For the Egg") that are absolutely stellar, and while the movies don't capture a lot of the originality of the books (isn't that always how it goes? haha) they still maintain a lot of the heart. Where there are a lot of noticeable differences between the books and the movies, the central themes remain the same: that it is important to do work that personally fulfills you and surround yourself with friends that will support you.

See, the books take place AFTER the events of Peter Pan's adventures with the Darling children. Tinker Bell has realized that Peter will never return her affections (her heartbreak is one of the most truly tear-jerking elements of the story) and has returned to doing what makes her happy: tinkering. We learn that all fairies have a natural talent that brings them joy, and for Tinker Bell, it's inventing, building, fixing and, well, tinkering. However, Tinker Bell is not the central character. The books largely focus on a new fairy name Prilla, who does not know what her talent is. The books follow Prilla's journey of self-discovery, and as she surrounds herself with strong and helpful friends (Tinker Bell, Rani, Vidia) she begins to learn more about herself as well. As far as children's literature goes--especially that aimed at young girls--you really couldn't ask for better!

The movie (simply titled "Tinker Bell") loosely follows this premise, but turns the idea into an origin story for Tinker Bell herself. I suppose Disney figured that Prilla wouldn't sell as many DVDs as Tinker Bell... but whatever. Tinker Bell takes on Prilla's role as the new fairy to Neverland, except with a twist: she knows that she loves tinkering, but the cruel remarks of others (apparently tinkers are kind of looked down upon by other fairies, since they have the mundane job of fixing pots and pans instead of controlling the elements) makes Tinker Bell decide to try to "change" her talent. She attempts to take on some of the more glamorous fairy talents, such as harnessing light or controlling water, but it all ends pretty miserably. Tinker Bell isn't really sure what to do, until a really beautiful animated scene that I won't spoil allows Tinker Bell to explore just why "tinkering" makes her so happy. Like Prilla, Tinker Bell begins to surround herself with supportive friends, as discovers that doing what she loves will always be better than doing what others might consider "glamorous."

The morals of self-discovery and friendship in this series are miles above most children's entertainment, if you ask me! And the animation is simply gorgeous, I don't care if you're a kid or an adult, a lot of the set pieces where the animators just step back and enjoy the landscape and the fairy houses are really quite remarkable to see. :D

Anyway, while the books remain about equal in quality all throughout the series, I do have to admit that the movies seems to be getting worse and worse... The fourth Tinker Bell movie ("The Secret of the Wings") was beautifully animated, but the story left something to be desired. The overal moral seemed to be that while friendship is nice and all, it can't really compare to the friendship between two sisters? IDK. I kind of felt like it was a step backwards, if we're strictly speaking about overall morals for young girls. But, the next Tinker Bell movie "The Pirate Fairy" looks very promising, so I'm not giving up on this series yet!

I would definitely, definitely check out the books, and certainly the first movie if you get the chance.
