It's never going to happen because Dean is straight and completely against dating supernatural creatures.

So. Um.

(Seriously do people not remember Sam's werewolf 'girlfriend'?)

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
And Sam's childhood Kitsune friend.

(Also in before 'But Cas is human now!!')

To be completely fair, werewolves and kitsune are both predatory species, biologically driven to kill humans or at least eat human flesh. And Dean may have a different attitude towards that, post-Benny.

A better comparison is Ruby at the start of Season 4, actually. There is no biological reason she couldn't live peacefully with humans, she has helped them and demonstrated her friendliness more than once, but she does come from a 'species' (for lack of a better word) which has shown itself hostile to humanity time and time again. But I think it's pretty obvious Dean isn't treating Cas anything like he treated Ruby.

The thing about Dean is, Dean makes exceptions based on how he feels. If Sam weren't his brother, he'd be fair game for hunting. Cas has already done things which would have gotten strangers killed.

I don't think Dean/Castiel is ever going to be canon, because the show is too mainstream to go there, and I don't think Dean/Castiel is OMG SO CANON, because I haven't seen any evidence either of them is interested sexually in men. But I don't know that "supernatural creature" is the stopping point. Consistency is not Dean's strong point.

The SHOW forgets Madison, I can't blame fans for forgetting her.

This. Dean is straight. He has said so more than once, for years now. And he had always been fairly close minded about supernatural beings. If people want to erase that and write fic, go ahead and have fun with it. But when people expect it to be canon and get upset that it is canon, I get twitchy about it.

just wait...

But seriously, Destiel is NOT canon. So, please stop going on like it is or it ever will be.

Lord, yes.

Idk man, he didn't seem too strictly straight when he got to meet Dr. Sexy. But then to my mind there is a huge gulf between Dean's natural personality and how he thinks of himself/thinks he should act--so while I personally read him as bi I wouldn't fight an argument that he would never date a man because he thinks of himself as being purely hetero.

Whatever happened to the fangirl "sexuality is fluid" motif? Does it only apply to gay guys going the other way?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It only applies to ships (and/or shippers) you like.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If a character does not outright say anything about their sexuality, only "showing" it through whom they date, then I presume their sexuality is fluid and just because we have only seen them dating people of the opposite gender doesn't negate the possibility of them dating someone of the same gender.

However, when there is a character, like Dean, who has frequently said that he is straight/is only interested in people of the opposite gender/is not interested in people of the same gender, I choose to accept his evaluation of his sexuality. It's not like he is still a teen/young adult who is still figuring things out. Given his lifestyle, I would assume that he has been exposed to all types, and if he says he is only intersted in women, then that is what I go with.

Considering the number of people who ship Dean with Sam and Castiel, apparently fangirls thinking everyone's sexuality is fluid no matter what the characters say is still a very popular concept.
