I am a Destiel Shipper. It's come to my attention that haters are going to hate. It's also come to my attention that we're seen as pretty delusional (not to mention other things).

I've been shipping this pairing with all my heart since the beginning, and I have been trying to face reality, because Destiel becoming canon is unlikely, with our society's norms. I told myself I was going to face reality head-on in season 8, and then so many 'hints' happened that I didn't expect and now I really can't face reality at all. I'm in worse shape than ever before, and don't know if I'll ever lose this delusion, ever. That Destiel will be canon.

Why can't people just enjoy a TV show for what it is, a TV show without focusing so desperately on shipping?

Whether a pairing is canon or not, is not the end-all, be-all of everything.

This secret is a perfect example of why Destiel shippers get such a bad rap. Delusion such as this seems to be pretty rampant in the fandom.

I don't get why this is such a big deal. So, it's not gonna be canon. You *hope* it will be, well.... More power to you? So long as you're not being an asshole about it, or spamming the writers/show runners/whatever with stuff about, who cares?

You're having fun, you have tons of fic and art to sate your Destial craving, and lots of fun little moments from the show, so....

Falling in love with ships that aren't going to become canon is a pain in the ass. People rag on Destiel shippers a lot (I guess there are a lot of you and probably therefore a bigger than average fringe of yargh? Idk SN fandom). But whether it's a fandom juggernaut or a tiny ship in a tiny fandom, thousands of us have been there. It's a special kind of geek pain.

With the spoilers from season 9, it seems the likelihood of Dean/Cas becoming canon is pretty zilch, unless it ends in a Merlin/Arthur way (not that that's news lbr).

It at least sounds like you know Dean/Cas won't become canon. That's a start? Hope you find some fanfic and feel better, anon :)

Be careful what you wish for, I say. I wasn't as dedicated to my ship as you are but a few years ago I was part of a fandom ship that was hugely popular, the creators listened (I'm guessing; it could have been planned all along), and it became canon. After flipping my shit about it and being overjoyed, I pretty quickly realized that the characters completely lost the thread and were no longer the characters I had come to know and love.

I ended up walking away from that fandom hating half of the pair and being glad the show was done with. These days, I'm a lot more realistic with my shipping and enjoy it for what it is since just because something is canon doesn't automatically make it better or a difference in the long run.

Wait! Are you only allowed to ship something if it's possible it will become canon? I have been shipping wrong for YEARS. (And I, personally, hope many of my ships do not become canon....canon always ruins it. Yes, Luke/Lorelei, I'm looking at you...)

I guess you haven't been keeping up with Misha interviews, but yeah. He says that now Cas is human, he's starting to notice the 'pretty ladies' that are around him. He's going to end up having a sexual relationship with one, who might be considered a 'huge spoiler'.

I'm sorry, but Supernatural has done nothing but use gay jokes. They've been doing it for ages. I'm kind of surprised the Destiel shippers haven't caught onto that by now? Anyway, don't get your hopes up. I guess there might be a very small chance Cas or Dean might end up being Bisexual, but I severely doubt it

What the hell is it with this show that brings out the frothing nut in people? I just don't understand. Back when I was still watching, and being entertained by occasional reads of Wincest, Destiel, and even J2 (hey, it was cute when I didn't know anyone actually believed in it), I had no conception of the depth of crazy going on behind the scenes. It's just your average paranormal show with attractive actors and mediocre writing. I'm so confused.

I ship it casually. I don't see any way it could happen on the show and I don't understand people who do. I think "societal norms" is almost meaninglessly vague. Other shows DO have assumed straight characters fall in love with members of the same sex. You can try and narrow it down to "oh but no male MAIN character who wears lots of plaid has ever had an EPIC ROMANCE after being straight for EIGHT seasons..." or whatever but I really, really don't care.

Best possible outcome is a series finale that doesn't explicitly rule it out, and that I can actually see happening. Pin your hopes on that OP.

I don't get why people are talking like there's no way in hell of Destiel becoming cannon. IT CAN STILL HAPPEN, and I there's little doubt in my mind that it will. Before eighth season I could say that what was going on between Dean and Cas was kept ambiguous on purpose. Those who want to see the gay love will see it and those who don't won't but ultimately not really progressing towards anything definitive. Now however, it's like this shit is getting ridiculous because it's no longer subtext it's build up for a coupling to be paid off later. The build up being things like a shot of Cas starting from his shoes going up to his face and having Dean's reaction be all speechless and flustered. Or how about Cas watching Dean sleep? Does shit like that happen between characters who have no romantic lending towards each other? I sure as fuck don't think so.
There's a crap ton of meta out there that articulate why its reasonable to think Dean's bisexual but I'm not even going to touch because I don't have to. I can bring up Willow as a solid example of a character who, when conceived and developed, was never meant to be queer. Also there was talk in the Buffy writer's room for a while about making Xander queer instead. But it happened to Willow anyway even after having a significant relationship with someone of the opposite sex and having a major unrequited feelings for Xander for years. Making Dean like guys or maybe even just liking Cas is not an unprecedented, crazy thing. OP, there have been quite a few gay characters on television, especially in TV shows geared towards young people, which is what Supernatural is. As for Cas's sexuality, it would be foolish to define that since he's an angel, or was. If Cas was in a woman's vessel and "he" was attracted to a man would that make him gay? If "he" was attracted to a woman in a woman's vessel would that make him straight? I think the SPN writers know Cas well enough to respect that nuance. Misha said that Cas would be having sex but he never said who he would be having sex with. If he has sex would a woman that doesn't really mean anything in the long run for Dean and Cas. TV shows pair the people in an end game couple with other people all the time. That could be what's happening here if Misha wasn't just being the troll he is and Cas in fact won't be having sex with anyone next season.
I don't think I'm being delusional here. I am using my big, educated brain to watch a show and make conclusions based on what I see and I'm seeing Destiel in a pretty clear way.
