Of course you can say that out loud. People say that out loud all the time.
But some other people will also disagree with that out loud!

In OP's defense, certain writers are unusually difficult to criticize on the internet because you run the risk of (mostly) fanboys descending upon your post in a frothingly angry horde and drowning the discussion in a sea of substanceless defense of the writer and ad hominem attacks against the critics.

The two writers whose fanbases I've most often seen behaving like this are Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon (and I say this as a fan of both writers myself).

Don't forget the Greens (of Vlogbrother fame) and Moffat. I made one comment about the first and I had to delete my Tumblr and use an old, abandoned one because holy shit teenage girls are scary when you insult their god.

Only in Moffatt's case you get dogpiled if you dare to say you enjoy his works.

Depends on the corner of fandom you're in, I guess.

And don't forget Anne Rice! Though, in her case, she might be leading the charge. : /

Anne Rice just likes her street fighting, fans, non-fans, steroid enhanced alligators, she'll take them all on.
