Mario is a short man with short red hair and side burns, a black mustache, pale skin, blue eyes and wearing a red hat with the emblem of the letter "M" on the front. He is wearing a long-sleeved red shirt, blue overalls, white gloves and brown shoes. He is touching Yoshi's egg, which is huge, white and with large green spots. It's laying on a small yellow nest. Luigi, standing beside Mario, is a taller man with light skin, red hair with slight sideburns, a black mustache, blue eyes and the same clothing Mario is, except that his hat and shirt are green instead of red and there is a letter "M" on his hat. He is shrugging, confused as Mario is by the egg. Behind them are three tall trees lined up, bearing strange fruit that look like apples with yellow spots, and with a partially blocked sign on one tree saying something about Mario and Yoshi. I just realized that the reason I always favored Luigi when I was growing up was because he wasn't fat.

Um. I just noticed this reading the transcript... do Mario and Luigi always have red hair? I guess with the big black moustaches I never paid attention to the hair under their hats. It's red?! I have never owned any form of gaming platform and have played maybe a dozen games of Brawl at parties in my life (but I'm usually Kirby or Link).

Do I fail at pop culture osmosis or is this picture atypical? D:

atypical; I think I've seen them with red hair in some pics but they're black/dark in the videogames

I think Mario has red hair in one or more of the sprite-y NES games? but I thought that was just a limited palette, because it's definitely a dark color in the 3D games

He definitely has reddish-brown hair in Super Mario 64. Since he can lose his cap you get a perfect look.

It's generally dark brown these days.
