Sims 3
As someone who played The Sims and all of its expansion packs, but only played the original Sims 2, what things should I be aware of with the Sims 3? Any raves about it? Glitches?

Overwatch, Errortrap, Master Controller (with add-ons) for lots of god powers. I also like Nraas Story Progression instead of EA's- less buggy and it controls the neighborhood better. I use a few other mods from that site just to enhance my game. They are super easy to dl and install. I just redownloaded the 35 I use earlier since I just got some new expansions.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)Problems aside, though, there are several things I love about Sims 3. The ability to control how your Sims behave at their job, the emphasis on traits, the better graphics, the neighborhood interaction, the detailed hobbies, and giving birth at hospitals are just a few of the changes I really enjoyed (and still enjoy.) I don't even have any of the expansion packs for this one, and I still haven't gotten bored with it in four months. :)

Re: Sims 3
What are some of the mods you've found that you loved?
Re: Sims 3
As fingalsanteater said, I love NRAAS. (Here is more in-depth on a few of them.) I have...
- Career (but mostly because I wanted two of my fandom sims to have a psychology career, not for "normal" gameplay)
- Dreamer (because I like getting more wish options, as some of them are very long term)
- Error Trap (not really for gameplay, but for handling glitches)
- Master Controller (OMG, this was my first and I cannot imagine ever living without it)
- Mover (not essential, just a nice little perk)
- Overwatch (I just got this one, to try to clean my game up, and it seems to be working. Apparently there are a lot of abandoned cars)
- Retuner (this is for a few things, like setting pregnancy length in my non-active sims)
- Story Progression (I like NRAAS's story progression so much more than EA's. I love getting the updates about what my other sims in the neighborhood are doing. I don't know that I'd care as much if I was using the premade characters / hadn't entirely created my neighborhood. Although it is less glitchy, even then.)
- Traveler (only really important if you get the World Adventures expansion. I like what it tweaks. I also like the option of using other worlds for vacation destinations, not just the WA worlds.)
- Woohooer (Another mod I couldn't live without. I like the tweaking on relationships. I also like the "oops" pregnancy setting.)
I also have a couple of non-NRAAS mods. Like one that eliminates zombies from spawning (although I think I figured out how to do that via the NRAAS retuner mod, so that one isn't as crucial) and one that allows breastfeeding. There are so many mods out there, depending on what you want.
The three I most couldn't do without (and the three that made me love the game) are the Master Controller, Story Progression, and Woohooer. But I would be hard pressed to do without pretty much any of them.
Re: Sims 3
Thanks for the list of suggestions! I have a feeling I'm going to adjust to the game first before going into any of the expansions. Definitely looking forward to it (it's a birthday gift so I have to wait until Thursday to play it)
Re: Sims 3
Have fun! :D

Re: Sims 3
So the townies age, as opposed to being stuck forever, like The Sims 2?

Re: Sims 3
(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 06:36 am (UTC)(link)Sims 3 works well for legacy houses, because you literally have one house in a neighborhood that's controllable. You can fill other houses with people, but they go off and do their own things (sometimes even getting married and having kids) while you're playing your main house. And you *can* (I've heard) switch to one of the other houses, but when you do, the house you were playing keeps on keeping on like all the others.
Also, I really find watching my Sims run to work or wherever they're going is just an unnecessary pain. I mean, it's kind of nice if you're in "downtown" and you can just walk to the business next door and not have to deal with load screens, but in general? Nope. Especially since the longer runs are when it seems to get the most laggy.
I also feel like it takes micromanaging to new, horrific levels.
The only things I really like is its vacation expansion and it's CAS and clothing options. But I like those a lot. If Sims 4 is essentially the Sims 2 gameplay with Sims 3 build-a-sim, I will be a happy, happy person.
Sorry, that got long, but I love Sims 2, and even have been working on a fannish neighborhood: http://fandomsims2.tumblr.com/ (Fandoms so far include pre-series Modern Family, pre-series Arrested Development, Growing Pains and, though I have no posts for them yet, Family Ties.)
Re: Sims 3
I'm still looking forward to seeing how Sims 3 plays and I think it's only $5 with the Humble Bundle so it's well worth the cost.
